The weather in Madrid

The climate of Madrid is continental Mediterranean and is very determined by the urban conditions. In the center of Madrid there is a small microclimate that minimizes extreme temperatures, while in the periphery the intraday variations are always greater.

Rain is present throughout the year although average precipitation levels are below those of other European capitals such as Paris or London.

The rainiest months are April, May, November and December.

Winter in Madrid

The winters in Madrid are cold but they carry much better than in more northern cities like Valladolid or Burgos. The minimum temperatures rarely fall below zero degrees and it is very strange to see snow. 2009 has been one of the coldest and most snowy years you can remember.

Summer in Madrid

Summers in Madrid are very hot and, due to the microclimate mentioned, reach some of the highest levels of Spain. In July and August the daily maximums exceed 30ºC and are the least rainy months.
