Fountain of Neptune

The Fountain of Neptune is a beautiful neoclassical monument carved in white marble located in the Plaza de Cánovas del Castillo, colloquially called Plaza de Neptuno. It is surrounded by magnificent buildings built between the 18th and 19th centuries.

A large sculpture of Neptune, god of the seas, which is holding a trident while riding on a chariot drawn by two fish-tailed horses, stands on the large circular pylon of the fountain.
Less known but of great beauty

Designed as part of the three large sculptural ensembles created by Ventura Rodríguez for Paseo del Prado (along with the Cibeles Fountain and the Apollo Fountain), the Fountain of Neptune was built between 1780 and 1784.

Place of celebrations

Just as the Fuente de Cibeles is an emblematic place for Real Madrid supporters, the Fuente de Neptuno is for Atletico Madrid fans, being here where the "colchoneros" celebrate all their victories.
