Madrid Airport

Madrid Barajas airport

The Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas International Airport is located in the Barajas district, twelve kilometers’ northeast of Madrid. The airport entered service in 1928 although its official inauguration was three years later.

With more than 46 million passengers in 2015, Barajas has become the fifth most important airport in Europe by passenger numbers behind Heathrow (London), Charles de Gaulle (Paris), Schiphol (Amsterdam) and Frankfurt.

The Barajas Airport has four terminals plus a satellite terminal. Terminal 4 was inaugurated in February of 2006 making Barajas one of the largest airports in the world by terminal surface.

When taking a plane is essential to know the terminal from which the flight departs, as both the parking and the metro are different for Terminal 4 and its satellite than for the first three terminals. The distance between terminals is more than two kilometers.
